Clothing Styles — Skinny jeans & Boots?
Looking for cheap boots, and also would like opinions and maybe even pictures of great color combinations between skinny jeans and boots… I’m thinking I’d like to get a new pair of skinny pitch black jeans, but what color boots would best fit with black pants? I’ve been looking online and a lot of the places I’ve looked have really expensive boots so this year I would like just one or two different pairs, and I want to make sure that the color I buy will match most of what I wear, which will be a lot of Arizona and American Eagle jeans.

College clothing budget?
Hey, I’m about to head off to college in the east coast, and am trying to recreate my style. I would say my style is very chic and classy, trendy but not too outrageous. Like a cute outfit I think I might wear in college is some acid wash skinny jeans, leather mid-calf flat boots or ankle-high booties, and a loose fitting pullover or chic sweater top, with a leatherette chanel-inspired bag.
My biggest problem in terms of shopping is that sometimes I buy things that are not very versatile in a wardrobe. How should I go about shopping to ensure that each piece I buy can be worn in several different ways?
Also, how much money should I spend? I was thinking like 4-5 jeans, 2 shorts, 5-6 shoes, 2 bags, 10-15 cute tops, 4-6 basic tops (basic camis, tees, etc.), 3-6 skirts, 4-6 jackets/outerwear, a few cardigans, and of course plenty of accessories and loungewear. I’m not looking to blow a whole bunch of money, for example I’ve found places to get really cute denims in a variety of styles for $15, and I already purchased a pair of black ankle-high heeled booties for $7.00 + $5 shipping.
I’m thinking forever 21, charlotte russe, wet seal, target, h&m, nordstrom rack, agaci, etc. and some online sources. Any other suggestions?
thanks for your answer! wow i’ve never thought to just think in my head how I can wear something; I guess it will keep me on my toes and help me make smarter choices. I think my biggest faux pas is buying things from “trendy places” just because they are on sale or really inexpensive. Now I’ll think twice!

In honor of my MIL – what are the best and worst gifts you’ve ever received? Or given?
My mother in law is a historically bad gift giver, and by historically, I mean in all of eternity.
However this year for my birthday (tomorrow) she gave me a very thoughtful gift, not the most amazing ever, but thoughtful nonetheless. I am allergic to gluten and don’t often purchase the Gluten Free mixes available because they are outrageously expensive. She gave me a box full of them.
My worst gift ever came from her, twice actually. The first was an old, used, hideous, and enormous tan acrylic sweater with a deer knitted into the back. It is a man’s sweater, was pilled, had to be at least 25 years old, had a huge shawl collar and went to mid-thigh on me. In addition it had those woven leather buttons. This was several years ago, and it eventually ended up in the loving arms of a teenage boy with a pretty funky sense of style (good, but funky), when I packaged it up for a white elephant party.
The other, also outerwear, was a polarfleece zip jacket with a horse imprinted on it. I’m not in to horses, my tastes tend towards classic styles, and did I say it? I’m NOT into horses. So what the heck?
Also, BOTH times she gave them to me, she said the immortal words “When I saw this, I thought of you.” Really? That’s not even nice! What I actually said with the horse sweater was, “Well, at least it’s the front end of the horse.”
Best gift ever? Possibly my Kitchen Aid mixer, or possibly the Cuisinart Elite 16 cup Food Processor still on it’s way to me (cue the meadow, the dreamy, passionate music).
So, tell me your best and worst! Given or received, or both.
Given – the year I gave my husband socks for Christmas. In my defense, we were *extremely* poor that year, and he’d gone and spent all the money on me, but I’ve never lived it down.
Best I ever gave? My husband his muzzleloader replica for our 20th anniversary, my daughter her saxophone.
Which trends do you like and which do you hate?
I have quite a few:
1. Jeans under dresses (completely negates the point).
2. Leggings/tights under shorts (especially denim).
3. Colored/acid/bleached denim.
4. Sneakers to prom (It’s not unique anymore).
5. Gladiators (They were nice 3 seasons ago).
6. Animal Print.
Trends I do like:
1. Leather wedges.
2. Oxford shoes (no multi-colored or printed ones).
3. Nude/Beige dresses.
4. Underwear as outerwear.
5. Blazers (I know everyone likes the boyfriend, but I like the school boy).
